Pram Shelters

With many nurseries, doctors surgeries, schools having very little storage space within the entrances of their premises to store prams and pushchairs, an outdoor storage area is the ideal solution to provide parents with a safe, and secure place to park their pram or pushchair whilst they visit the premises.

Many parents take their small children to nursery and look to leave the pushchair or pram there whilst they continue on to work. Providing a purpose made storage area encourages parents to walk rather than travel by car. Furthermore, freeing up the reception area of your setting .

The most common size of pram shelter most frequently purchased is a 3.2m x 2.2m shelter that holds around 10 prams. The pram shelters are normally glazed with UV stable polycarbonate panels to reduce the internal heat within and also to stop fading of fabrics on the often expensive equiptment that is stored within.

The style of the pram shelter roof should be considered to ensure that it is in keeping with the existing building. Pitched. elliptical and flat roof styles are all available.

For security, an internal pram tether rail within the shelter enables the pram or pushchair to be attached by means of an individual lock. The customer can either control the use of these at their reception or ask the parents to buy their own lock for their own personal use. Also, a locking door can be added to the shelter for overnight security. The door can be either glazed to match the shelter or come in the form of a roller shutter door which can also be operated electrically for ease of use.

Side glazing for the shelter can be of either toughened safety glass or polycarbonate panels – both options have their advantages and disadvantages and the choice is entireley down to customer preference.

Many nurseries opt for a shelter glazed with solid panels and then use the shelter as a storage facility for outdoor toys and furniture etc. Pram shelters can be supplied with colourful graphics including the name of your centre etc.

The shelters we manufacture have tamper proof fittings and no protruding external extrusions to assist any would be vandal an easy access to the roof. Being powder coated aluminium, the shelter will not rust or requiure expensive repainting.

All in all, supplying one of our outdoor pram shelters for your clients and customers makes your setting a much more welcome place to visit for these people and helps you to use your indoor space much more efficiently and safeley.

Bus Shelter Location

Bus shelter location
The design of the bus shelter and its actual location are an extremely important consideration in the drive to deliver a quality bus service that is accessible to all.
Improving the quality of public transport by making the quality of the journey more comfortable and easier have shown to increase usage.
Introducing a new bus shelter or repositioning an existing bus shelter can be highly controversial amongst local residents or business owners in an area. Consultation with residents and commercial people has to be undertaken before new stop positions can be decided and new shelters can be installed.

The site of the proposed bus stop should be evaluated with regard to sight lines, pedestrian safety and any operational problems for buses using the stop.

A site survey by the bus shelter manufacturer will help to ascertain the size and design of bus shelter that would best suit the requirements of the community using the shelter and the budget of the purchaser of the shelter.

Passenger considerations include the location of the bus shelter for convenience, the size of the bus shelter, security such as lighting; it’s connectivity with footpaths and its accessibility for disabled users. Additions such as seating, litter bins and passenger information boards all need to be taken into account.

Other aspects to consider are the type and height of the kerb, existing road surface markings, position of any underground utilities and access covers and drainage. Bus shelters are normally installed into the ground rather than being bolted down. This makes them much more stable and less likely to be vandalised.

Our usual recommended minimum footway width required after the installation of a shelter is 1.8 metres. Where we install a shelter with its screen to rear the of the footway we would usually leave a minimum gap of 300mm to allow for cleaning and maintenance.

Glazing options include toughened safety glass, polycarbonate, PET G or solid panels. We leave the choice to our customers as each site should be evaluated on its own merits. In areas of high vandalism, solid or perforated metal panels are often the preferred choice of glazing or half and half. The perforated panels reduce the likelihood of graffiti whilst still allowing protection from the rain and also visibility for the user.

Lighting the shelter can give the user added security when it is dark and offer the bus driver better visibility of waiting passengers. Power supply at the site is a major factor to consider. Where no power supply is available, solar powdered lighting is the solution.

Many councils now operate Real Time information displays within their bus shelters. These can keep the passenger informed of the progress the bus is making and know when they will be boarding the bus which makes for a more stress free journey.

Pram Shelters

Garrick Outdoor was the first company to design and manufacture a purpose made outdoor pram shelter. Consulting very closely with Surestart nurseries we designed not only the first walk-in pram shelter but also the first low level buggy store. Over the years, we have installed literally hundreds of pram shelters and buggy stores throughout the UK and although our designs have been copied by other companies, we are still the company most frequently specified due to our shelters having been tried and tested for so many years. We can provide references for each and every shelter we display on our website

Our pram shelters and buggy stores come with many anti-tamper and security features to protect both the user and the prams and pushchairs stored within. Various options are available to make the shelter extra secure including locking doors, roller shutter doors and pin code entry systems.

Our company were the first to utilise UV stable polycarbonate roofing systems to ensure that the interior temperature of the shelter on hot days is kept to a minimum and also to ensure that fabrics of prams stored in the shelter all day will not fade and the frames will not become untouchably hot.

Over the years, we have been approached by customers asking for variations of our shelter including pram shelters with cycle storage incorporated, a pram shelter with seating to utilise as a parent waiting shelter too and we are frequently asked to supply our pram shelters for the storage of outdoor toys and equipment utilising solid aluminium panels to conceal the contents within.

We manufacture all pram shelters and buggy stores ourselves in our own purpose built factory in Southport, we are able to supply our shelters in any standard RAL or BS colour of your choice and to any size to suit your requirements. Roof styles including pitched, mono pitched, elliptical and flat are available to complement any existing building the shelter may be installed near to and various glazing options are available.
